Hi,
My sister got an AIM virus that we're unable to get rid of. You may remember the "Hahaha I found %n's picture here" thing that went around a few months ago. Well, this one puts up an away message that says something like "OMG look at this!" and then has a link to a file that ends in .scr. So far, I have not found a way to get rid of this virus. We haven't tried a virus scan, but I looked on Google, and someone said that virus scanners weren't detecting this one. I also found a site that had an executable file that would supposedly fix the problem, but I don't want to run some random executable file from some random site. Any suggestions?
The information you found on Google may be outdated. A virus checker should be able to detect the virus as soon as the signature is added to the virus definitions. Go to these three websites to perform FREE online virus scans: www.pandachallenge.com, housecall.trentmicro.com (click on Free online virus scan), securityresponse.symantec.com (click on online virus and security check). Once you have been able to determine the technical name of the virus, write it down and point your browser to http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/vinfodb.html. Search for the virus name in this database, and you will be provided with detailed removal instructions for irradicating the virus. Hope this helps.
I'm getting it looked up via Central Command's support department. I'll post a link to it as soon as I have anything.
Well Doodge as you know, I got the old AIM virus and you helped me fix it. What freaks me out is I almost downloaded your sis' virus! Lol! I floowed the link and saw file download and decided not to do it, I just wasn't in the mood! Thank heavens! I hope I didn't get the virus just from clicking on it! Anyway any help you all get about this virus would be most appreciated, because Derek's sis rocks and I want her to get it fixed lol!

OK folks, first my antivirus vender gave me this link to look at: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivirus/AIM-Fix.shtml and also, plese run a virus scan. Its the only way to truly know if you've got a virus. The people I've E-mailed said that they haven't heard of this virus, so wasn't sure if the product could remove it, but let us know what the virus scan comes up with.
If you don't have a virus scanner, here's a free virus scanner on the net. The URL is http://housecall.trendmicro.com and I hope this helps.
What would you all say is the bestist free virus killing program out there? Caitlin
